SAN FRANCISCO – Already short-handed, the Nets lost their hottest hand. However, they refused to lose the match.
Despite putting Cam Johnson on the injured list, Brooklyn fought back with a 128-120 come-from-behind victory over Golden State in front of a packed Chase Center crowd of 18,064 on Sunday.
With Johnson out with a sprained right ankle and Nic Claxton, Dorian Finney-Smith, Ben Simmons and Noah Clowney already out, the Nets trailed by 18 points in the third quarter.
But they put together a 27-6 run over the next nine minutes to take the lead and never relinquished it.
Dennis Schroder scored 23 of his 31 points in the second half, had seven assists and five rebounds, and provided much-needed leadership late in the game.
Jalen Wilson stepped up in Johnson's absence, scoring a season-high 18 points.
And Ziare Williams, who was forced to play center due to the Nets' frontcourt being destroyed, had 19 points, nine boards and four assists.
Cam Thomas scored 23 points, but was notable for not coming off the bench in the fourth quarter, when Brooklyn (8-10) came from behind to win its second straight.
They went 20-of-45 from deep, matching a season high. But they wasted that shooting effort and lost to Denver. With this they closed.
Western Conference leader Golden State fell to 12 wins and 5 losses, leaving an emotional impression.
