Should businesses disclose their use of AI? Most Americans say yes

As more companies adopt rapidly evolving technology, companies of all sizes are integrating artificial intelligence into their systems to varying degrees.

But amidst privacy concerns over such tools, new research shows that most American consumers want to know if and how companies are using AI. thinking about.

A report released by Zetwerk earlier this month found that 68% of consumers think companies should voluntarily disclose their use of AI, while 59% believe companies should be legally required to do so by governments. It says it should be made compulsory.

Stephanie Martinez from Zetwerk's creative team told FOX Business: “People are realizing that AI isn't perfect and are becoming more cautious about how much they can trust interacting with artificial intelligence on behalf of their companies. There is,” he said. “Consumers are also raising concerns about how their data and privacy will be affected by the use of AI.”

The study categorized the industries where consumers are most and least comfortable with using AI.

Of the 813 Americans surveyed, 69% of industry leaders said they believe they should be forced to disclose the use of AI in healthcare. More than half (56%) said AI should be made public in workplace health and safety monitoring, and 52% said financial services companies should be transparent about how they use the technology.

Half of those surveyed said companies should disclose if they use AI for marketing, and 43% said companies using AI chatbots or virtual assistants should disclose how they use such tools. I answered that it should.

Zetwork also surveyed business-to-business managers in its research and found that opinions were sharply divided along political lines on the issue.

Forty-seven percent of Republican executives told researchers they think companies should voluntarily disclose all information about their use of AI, but fewer Republicans believe it should be legally required. was only 16%.

However, about 60% of managers who identified as Democrats said that companies should voluntarily and legally disclose their use of AI.

Overall, 71% of companies surveyed said they are integrating AI into their operations. Roughly one-third of large companies said they fully disclose their AI usage at all times, while three in five small and medium-sized companies said they always fully disclose their AI usage to partners and customers. respondents said they disclosed little or nothing.

“Here’s what we know: AI is important, and so is transparency,” Martinez said.

“It is imperative for businesses to prioritize transparent and ethical AI strategies while navigating the evolving landscape of AI adoption,” she added. “AI is becoming essential, but maintaining trust requires a consistent balance between innovation and integrity in business practices.”
