Vance Predicts Downfall for Schumer After Government Shutdown Failure
During an appearance on FNC’s “Hannity,” Vice President J.D. Vance suggested that the Democratic Party’s inability to leverage a government shutdown could lead to the end of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s political career.
Vance described the shutdown as both “embarrassing” and “revealing” for Democrats.
Host Sean Hannity remarked, “That was $1.5 trillion, including significant amounts for health care for undocumented immigrants, DEI programs overseas, NPR, and PBS. Is that really the hill you want to die on? Did you have any discussions with Democrats about finding common ground?”
Vance responded, “Oh, absolutely, we have private discussions regularly, and honestly, I think the Democrats are aware that their extreme positions don’t make sense. But they seem hostage to their far-left members.” He continued, “Yes, Chuck Schumer’s career might be on the line here; he’s been one of the staunchest defenders of the shutdown. The far left will never be satisfied, and it seems like Democrats are willing to jeopardize everything. Thankfully, a few moderate Democrats chose reason over chaos.”
“We need to take a moment to reflect on how outrageous their demands were,” he added. “They sought $1.5 trillion, a substantial portion of which was for health care benefits for undocumented immigrants. They proposed rolling back the effective border policies we’ve implemented. As you noted, they wanted NPR and PBS funding reinstated. Essentially, they stated that if their far-left priorities were not met, they would risk severe repercussions for the entire country. It’s disheartening and really highlights their motivations. They’re not interested in American welfare or health care; instead, they’re using threats that jeopardize family gatherings over holidays. It’s just absurd—that was their actual stance.”
