Siena Lacrosse Coach Liam Gleeson Passes Away

Liam Gleeson, the head coach of the Siena Saints men’s lacrosse team, has tragically died at the age of 41 due to a traumatic brain injury sustained from a fall at home, as announced by the school on Wednesday.

During Gleeson’s tenure, the Siena lacrosse team made significant strides, reaching the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship and earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament in the 2025 season.

Siena College President Chuck Seifert expressed the overwhelming sorrow felt within the community, stating, “This sudden and senseless loss is a kind of pain that is beyond comprehension. It’s hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleeson’s life.”

In response to the family’s loss, a GoFundMe page has been created to help support Gleeson’s wife and their three children during this difficult time.

“The Gleeson family has suffered an unimaginable tragedy when Liam suffered a traumatic brain injury,” the GoFundMe page noted. “Everyone who knows him knows what a light he is in this world. His heart is as big as his 6-foot-5 frame, and the love he gives to those around him is immeasurable.”

Liam Gleeson had been a part of Siena’s coaching staff for seven seasons. He was recognized as the conference coach of the year in both the MAAC and the Eastern College Athletic Conference last year. Under his guidance, Siena achieved its first national ranking in 14 years, finishing the season with an impressive 11 wins and 5 losses.

A native of New York, Gleeson had played college lacrosse at the University of Albany.

His funeral is set to take place on Saturday at Siena’s campus.
