A disturbance at a Target in Simi Valley escalated into a chaotic scene, resulting in several injuries and renewed calls for public safety. The situation began when a man allegedly attacked a woman at random and subsequently targeted those attempting to intervene.
The Simi Valley Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the Target store located at 51 Tierra Rejada Road around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, after they received multiple calls regarding the unfolding chaos. As mentioned by KTLA, the police found a tumultuous environment when they arrived.
According to investigators, 34-year-old Rejean Tabor entered the store and immediately started choking a female customer at the checkout. It was later revealed that the victim did not know him.
As employees and shoppers rushed to assist, Tabor allegedly turned on them, attacking even a juvenile who tried to help.
The disorder spread throughout the store, with customers struggling to subdue Tabor. A part of the incident was captured on video, showcasing Tabor grappling with bystanders in the clothing section.
This footage revealed at least two women being knocked over and two men repeatedly going up against Tabor, trying to stop him. A young girl was also seen dangerously close to the melee.
As events deteriorated, Target staff initiated an emergency evacuation, prompting a swift police response.
Officers later found Tabor in the grocery section, where he reportedly began throwing items off the shelves.
He was subsequently taken into custody.
Various customers, including a minor, sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site. The first woman attacked was transported to a local hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition as of Thursday.
Tabor was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, robbery, assault, and more.
The shocking incident has ignited online outrage, with many expressing their discontent regarding crime and safety measures.
One commenter questioned the judicial system, saying, “Thanks to the judge for keeping this man back on the streets.” Another lamented the idea that under current leadership, such offenders might be released quickly. Yet some, in a twist, praised the courage of those who intervened, with a shoutout to a girl who struck Tabor to try to help.
