Simone Biles Criticized Over Transgender Debate
Simone Biles, the celebrated Olympic champion, has faced backlash following her remarks against former NCAA swimming champion Riley Gaines regarding the subject of transgender athletes in women’s sports.
On Friday evening, Biles took to X, launching a series of posts targeting Gaines, labeling him as “really sick” and a “straight loser.” This conversation escalated after Gaines reacted to a post from the Minnesota State High School League, which celebrated the Champlin Park High School girls’ softball team as the 2025 Class AAAA Softball Champions.
Previously, there were reports about Melissa Rothenberger, a transgender pitcher, helping Champlin Park High School win a state championship through outstanding performances.
Biles stated, “@riley_gaines_You’re really sick, everything about this campaign because you lost the race. Straight losers. We should either find ways to lift the trans community and make sports inclusive, or create a safe space for trans athletes in sports.”
She added, “Ironically, you’ll be a man, bully your own size @riley_gaines_.”
In the aftermath, many users on X critiqued Biles’ statements, suggesting that if a biological male were to compete in women’s gymnastics, she might change her perspective. Others highlighted that nearly 80% of Americans believe biological men should not participate in women’s sports.
A notable response came from Senator Nancy Mace (R-SC), who remarked, “Honey, if a biological man competes in female gymnastics, no one will know your name.”
One commenter suggested, “Selling your own gender for clicks and relevance is never a good career move.” Another comment warned, “Watching Simone Biles will destroy her legacy within 24 hours.”
Actor Kevin Sorbo chimed in, stating, “If a man competes in female gymnastics, you’ll sing another song.” One user compared it to feminism, saying, “My favorite feminism is where women protect the man in a girl’s locker room instead of supporting other women.”
Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany noted that nearly 80% of Americans agree with Gaines’ stance. Referring to a New York Times/IPSOS investigation, she shared that 79% of respondents believe biological men should not compete in women’s sports. The statistics also revealed that 67% of Democrats, 94% of Republicans, and 64% of independents hold similar views.
Another pointed out, “The girl who is involved in a sport where there are literally two different sets of devices because men and women are biologically different.”
