“The Simpsons” has done it again.
The animated show appeared to predict that Vice President Kamala Harris would seek the Democratic presidential nomination after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race over the weekend.
The show’s writers addressed the coincidence on social media.
In a 2000 episode of the comedy series “Bart to the Future,” Lisa Simpson becomes the first female president of the United States. She wears the exact same purple outfit that Harris wore to the 2021 inauguration, including the pearl necklace and earrings.
After a major shake-up in the Democratic presidential nomination, a series of photos of Lisa and Harris (59) became a hot topic on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
“The prophetic Simpsons have become one of the most enduring mysteries of modern times!” said one fan. Tweeted.
“It’s disturbing how often these predictions come true,” another said.
Al Jean, a writer for the show, also tweeted the prescient photo.
“Proud to be a part of @TheSimpsons ‘Prophecy’,” he said. I have written.
The show, created by Matt Groening, is known for predicting future events, including the inauguration of Donald Trump as President.
“We inherited some pretty significant budget challenges from President Trump,” Lisa said in the same episode.
Groening, 70, appeared on the show in a 2016 interview predicting that Trump, 78, would take over the White House. The Guardian.
“I predicted he would be president in 2000. [Trump] “Of course, it was the most ridiculous fake joke name we could come up with at the time, and it’s still true today. It goes beyond satire,” he said.
The show also accurately predicted the Capitol riots, the Game of Thrones finale and the coronavirus pandemic.
The 1996 episode, titled “Lisa the Iconoclast,” sees Lisa nearly get shot and killed while standing on a rooftop, eerily similar to the assassination attempt on President Trump earlier this month.
The episode was pulled from airing in the UK the day after the former president was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Biden, 81, withdrew from the 2024 presidential race after a disastrous performance in the June 27 debate, with Democrats worried the incumbent president would suffer a major defeat in November.
“Serving as your president has been the greatest honor of my life,” Biden said in a letter addressed to his “fellow Americans” on Sunday.
“Although I intended to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to step aside and focus on fulfilling the duties of my presidency for the remainder of my term,” he continued. “I will speak to the American people in more detail about my decision later this week.”
He also endorsed Harris for president during his announcement on X.
“Today I want to fully endorse and support Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Fellow Democrats, now is the time to unite and defeat Trump. Let’s do it together,” Biden wrote.
In a statement, Harris said she was “honored” to receive Biden’s endorsement and confirmed she would seek the nomination.
“Over the past year, I have traveled the country speaking to Americans about the clear choice in this crucial election, and I will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead,” the former California senator said. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and the country — to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”
Harris has been endorsed by Reps. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Pete Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Former President Barack Obama has not yet endorsed her, saying Democrats would choose an “outstanding candidate.”
Her nomination won’t be confirmed until the Democratic National Convention in August.
