Sinclair Broadcasting Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Episode
On Friday evening, the Sinclair Broadcasting Group made headlines by honoring Charlie Kirk’s life.
This move comes after an incident involving Jimmy Kimmel, who made controversial comments regarding the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Following public outcry, ABC opted to pull the episode featuring Kimmel indefinitely.
Sinclair had previously voiced its dissatisfaction, suggesting that Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and insensitive. In response, they replaced Kimmel’s show with a tribute to Kirk.
However, when the time arrived for the airing, Sinclair chose instead to redirect viewers to a tribute available on YouTube. A statement clarified their decision, assuring that ABC’s regular programming would still be available. The Charlie Kirk special, it noted, would now be streamable via ‘The National News Desk’ YouTube channel, maintaining access to ABC’s offerings while providing this special content online.
The hour-long tribute focused on Kirk’s life and legacy, while also addressing the rising political violence within the U.S.
Sinclair noted that tributes would also be presented at ABC stations they do not own. Meanwhile, many on the political left protested against ABC’s actions, urging that Kimmel’s show should make a return. Congressional Democrats have started looking into the reasons behind Kimmel’s suspension.
Sinclair’s vice president, Jason Smith, expressed the company’s view that broadcasters ought to help foster respectful dialogue in society. He emphasized their commitment to not reinstate “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” until they feel that the necessary measures to uphold broadcasting standards are being met.
In related news, a memorial service for Charlie Kirk is slated to take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, this Sunday. Notable speakers include President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, along with Kirk’s widow, Erica Kirk.
