Sirens secure top draft choice Kristýna Kaltounkova with a three-year contract

PWHL Team Signs Top Draft Pick Kristýna Kaltounková

The youth movement at the PWWHL continues to gain momentum. Recently, the team moved up to draft the skilled athlete from Colgate, and on Monday, they officially signed their first overall pick, Kristýna Kaltounková, to a three-year deal.

Kaltounková, who was picked in the first round, is wrapping up her rookie season. So far, she has been impressive, ranking second in the PHWL and fourth overall in the league, amassing the second-most points in the league. Quite an achievement!

After spending five years with Colgate’s women’s hockey program, Kaltounková is expected to enhance the Sirens’ offensive line. She set multiple records during her time there, including the second-most assists (122) and total points (233). That’s pretty remarkable, right?

“Speed, physicality, competition, passion—Carti brings it all. She’s got the guts to block shots on the ice, but trust me, it takes real courage to block her,” was mentioned about her abilities. The organization is excited to welcome her to the Sirens’ family, committing to a three-year contract which seems like a significant move for them, especially after missing the playoffs the last couple of seasons.

The contract will keep Kaltounková in the tri-state area until the end of the 2027-28 PWHL season, which is a solid commitment for a budding talent.

In her own words, Kaltounková expressed her pride in signing the contract, mentioning that she is eager to connect with her new teammates and fans. “Alicia Keys said it best—New York is where dreams are made. I can’t wait to live mine as a Siren,” she said in her statement.

As the Sirens gear up for the 2024-25 season, they are looking to improve on their previous campaign, where they achieved only 12 wins and missed the playoffs once again.

Earlier this year, the Sirens left players Alex Carpenter and Jesse Eldridge unprotected in a specialized signing window and expanded draft, both of whom joined the newly established Seattle franchise.
