Skating coach Gabrielle Sam Linehan shot at Missouri Starbucks

Tragic Shooting of Former Team USA Skater in Missouri

A former Team USA skater, Gabriel “Sam” Linehan, was reportedly shot and killed during an armed robbery at a Starbucks drive-thru in Missouri. This incident involved a suspect, Keith Ramon Brown, who has a lengthy criminal record and was already wanted for two other shootings that occurred just days before.

Linehan, aged 28, was sitting in his car at a Starbucks in the Tower Grove East area of St. Louis when Brown allegedly approached him at gunpoint just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a probable cause statement.

Surveillance footage captured Brown, 58, wearing a high-visibility vest and helmet as he approached Linehan’s vehicle. He ordered Linehan to raise his hands before opening fire.

After being shot, Linehan was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The skating community is mourning his loss. St. Louis Synergy, a synchronized figure skating team he coached, expressed their grief and paid tribute to him, saying that Coach Sam was much more than just a mentor on the ice. He was described as a dedicated leader who instilled values like integrity and teamwork.

“This loss is abrupt and deeply heartbreaking for everyone involved,” the team’s statement emphasized, noting their focus on supporting Linehan’s family and the skaters during this challenging period.

Linehan had a storied career, having helped the St. Louis Synergy and Team USA to a silver medal at the 2014 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships. Longtime coach Ramona Peterson remarked on his incredible talent and dedication.

In the robbery, Brown allegedly made off with Linehan’s bank cards and driver’s license before fleeing the scene on foot.

He was arrested early Wednesday morning and faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and robbery. Brown’s criminal history stretches back to the mid-1980s and includes previous armed robberies that occurred within days of Linehan’s shooting.

Court records reveal that Brown had approached another vehicle in a Jack in the Box drive-thru on February 6, where he threatened the driver and stole various items, including a firearm. Two days later, he allegedly attempted another robbery at a Dollar General store.

Authorities noted that Brown fired shots during each robbery. Items stolen in his earlier crimes, along with other evidence, were recovered during his arrest. As of now, he remains in custody without bail at the St. Louis City Justice Center.
