Breezy Johnson Gets Engaged After Olympic Gold

American skier Breezy Johnson has wrapped up the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics with mixed emotions. While she faced a setback, crashing during the Super-G event, her earlier performance had solidified her place as an Olympic champion.

On Sunday, the 30-year-old athlete made headlines by winning the gold medal in downhill skiing at the famed Olimpia delle Tofane course in Cortina d’Ampezzo. In a nail-biting finish, she narrowly surpassed Germany’s Emma Aicher and Italy’s Sofia Goggia, who finished with silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The moment was made even more special at the finish line. In a surprising twist, Johnson’s boyfriend, Connor Watkins, proposed as she celebrated her victory, presenting her with a beautiful white gold engagement ring adorned with a blue sapphire and white sapphires.

Despite her disappointing race on Thursday, Johnson leaves Italy with the dual titles of Olympic champion and fiancé.

In photos taken during this memorable event, a wooden keepsake featuring lyrics from Taylor Swift’s song “The Alchemy” appeared alongside her engagement ring. The quote, “Honestly, who are we to fight the alchemy?” resonated with the moment’s significance.

Watkins mentioned that he had been planning the proposal for a year. Johnson revealed that she had always dreamed of a proposal at the Olympics, which added to the occasion’s enchantment.

“It’s definitely a lot more crazy with everything just happening all at once, and the reality of it is so different than the way you imagined, and so much better,” Johnson said, reflecting on the whirlwind of emotions.

Watkins expressed his relief, stating he was “really hoping that I could get in the finish area and do it the way I wanted. And it turned out we could, and we’re just super excited.”

Other ski legends also faced challenges. Lindsey Vonn, competing at age 41 after coming out of retirement, crashed after hitting a gate, resulting in a serious leg injury that required airlifting to a hospital for surgery.

Last week, Johnson’s winning performance was celebrated by her fiancé, marking her as the second American woman to claim gold in Olympic downhill skiing, following Vonn’s victory in 2010. This also represented the first gold medal awarded to an American at this year’s Games and was a pivotal moment in Johnson’s career.
