Skydiving Incident in Illinois Results in One Death and One Injury
One skydiver has died and another was injured following an aerial collision in Ogle County, Illinois, on Wednesday evening.
Shortly before 7 PM, the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a skydiving accident involving an “uncontrolled descent” in Rochelle, Illinois.
When deputies arrived, they found a 40-year-old man in a parking lot with severe injuries. Firefighters transported him to Rochelle Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The second skydiver was located at Colitzfield-Rochel Municipal Airport and taken to the hospital with minor injuries, though details about their condition remain unclear.
Authorities indicated that the initial investigation suggested a collision between the two skydivers, leading both parachutes to collapse. Although a spare parachute was deployed, one diver ultimately experienced an “uncontrolled descent.” The investigation is ongoing, involving both the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and federal authorities.
This tragic incident follows closely after a separate skydiving-related accident at a New Jersey airport, which involved a small plane crash but fortunately resulted in no fatalities. Five people were injured, and they were taken to the hospital.
