SL Green purchases Daniel Boulud’s main New York City property for $18.5 million

SL Green Strengthens Partnership with Daniel Boulud

SL Green, the largest commercial landlord in the city, has deepened its collaboration with renowned chef Daniel Boulud by acquiring the property of his flagship restaurant.

According to public records, SL Green, under CEO Mark Holliday, spent $18.5 million to buy approximately 16,000 square feet of Restaurant Daniel’s condominium space located at 60 East 65th Street.

Following the sale, Boulud’s Dinex Group swiftly committed to a 20-year lease with SL Green, indicating that no major changes are expected at the Michelin-starred establishment.

This deal allows Dinex to secure extra funding for its ongoing expansion efforts. Currently, Boulud has opened Terrace Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong and is set to launch Café Boulud at the Waldorf Astoria Admiralty Arch in London later this year.

“As Restaurant Daniel celebrates its 40th anniversary, it’s vital that it remains strong, relevant, and continues investing in its future. This deal is beneficial, and we can achieve that with our trusted partner SL Green,” Boulud expressed enthusiastically during a phone call from Hong Kong.

Dinex CEO Sebastian Silvestri mentioned that the property sale will allow the company to concentrate on its “core restaurant business.” Dinex’s New York establishments include Café Boulud at Maison Barnes, Le Gratin, and a new brasserie set to open near Lincoln Center.

Brett Hershenfeld, executive vice president of SL Green, stated that the acquisition “deepens the company’s investment” in the Upper East Side, enhancing its ongoing partnership with Boulud.

While many top restaurants have formed alliances with significant landlords in the city, the relationship between SL Green and Boulud stands out for its close ties.

Before this recent deal, SL Green was the landlord for Boulud’s Le Pavilion and Jozi at One Vanderbilt, as well as La Tete d’Or at One Madison.
