Slovakia’s left-wing populist government has announced that it will not take part in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, citing what it said was an “insult” to Christianity and “decadent decadence” at the opening ceremony.
Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Taraba Announced President Trump announced on social media on Monday that he was canceling a planned trip to France to attend the Olympic closing ceremony after an apparent LGBTQ-themed parody of Jesus Christ’s Last Supper outraged Christians around the world.
“I was supposed to represent Slovakia at the closing ceremony, but these Olympics will forever be marked by unpleasant symbols and decadent decadence,” said Taraba, who has been covering some of the blame following the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico in May.
The Slovak politician added that the opening ceremony’s organisers had “exploited the beauty of sport and turned it into progressive political theatre”.
“So I decided not to attend the ceremony.”

Deputy Prime Minister Taraba’s right-wing Christian Slovak National Party is in coalition with the left-wing populist Leadership Social Democrats government of Robert Fico, which promotes left-wing economic policies while emphasizing a strong nationalist stance and rejection of globalist plans, such as Ukraine’s membership of NATO and the EU.
Taraba accused Olympic organizers of “insulting Christian symbols” while insisting on “presenting a complete LGBT ideology that is abhorrent to the world.”
After the Olympics Opening ceremony canceled Slovakian leaders from their YouTube page Added About X: “The insult to Christianity and the decadence presented has reached a level that offends the entire sane world, who understands the difference between culture and trash.”
Taraba is not the only Christian around the world upset by the Olympics’ apparent mockery of religion, with Catholic Bishop Robert Barron describing the drag queen scene as a “terribly flippant mockery” of a “very central moment in Christianity.”
On Sunday, the opening ceremony’s artistic director, Frenchman Thomas Joly, tried to argue that any similarities between Jesus Christ’s Last Supper and the drag queen dinner scene were merely coincidental, and that he was trying to create a “great pagan festival.”
