Ray’s New Flavor of Potato Chips Wins Fan Contest
This summer, Ray’s introduced a unique snack: Bacon Grilled Cheese Potato Chips. They just secured the top spot in the “Do Us a Flavor” fan contest for 2025.
Paula George from Supplepa, Oklahoma, came up with this winning flavor, which garnered the most votes, as announced by Frito-Lay, the Texas-based snack company.
George said her flavorful creation was inspired by a recipe from her late father. The chips themselves boast a blend of butter, cheddar cheese, blue cheese, and bacon fat, among other ingredients.
On Reddit, snack enthusiasts shared their thoughts about these new chips. One user mentioned, “I’ve never tried bacon-flavored ones, but I usually don’t enjoy ‘bacon flavor’.”
“I love the taste of bacon, but the ‘bacon flavor’ often misses the mark,” came another response.
Another commenter expressed frustration with the common heavy smokiness of bacon-flavored snacks. Some users were skeptical about trying the new flavor, while others seemed genuinely excited.
Overall, reactions varied. One individual commented, “It looks pretty good,” while others who had already tried them said they found the chips just okay, equating them to standard cheese chips. “They don’t offer anything beyond the usual cheese flavor,” one Redditor noted.
However, some were pleasantly surprised by the flavor. One user stated, “The grilled bacon cheese flavor was surprisingly good. I enjoyed them more than expected.” Notably, George’s winning flavor beat out two other finalists—Valentina & Lime and Wavy Korean Style Fried Chicken—both of which are also now available in stores.
This isn’t the first time Ray’s has captured fans’ attention with inventive flavors. Previous favorites include chicken and waffles, cheese garlic bread, and southern biscuits and gravy.
Frito-Lay has yet to comment on the overwhelming reception of Ray’s new chips.
