‘SNL’ 50th anniversary show is missing a key ingredient

Few shows have done a better job of celebrating themselves than “Saturday Night Live.” This means drying yourself harshly with every birthday of a notable milestone and surpassing yourself as you are ready to turn 50. Someone who joined the train early (for me, that was the second season, and this is probably why I was always biased towards Bill Malay over Chevrolet Chase), and it seemed like the best buffet table ever.

The four-episode documentary about Peacock is particularly good. In particular, it details the episode dedicated to casting auditions and the birth and rise of “More Cowbell” skits into legend. The documentary, featuring so many musical guests, was a must-see surveillance, as was almost all of the Radio City SNL concerts on Friday (also available at Peacock).

(That one my personal top five moments: 1. Sold Post Malone for the late Kurt Cobain of Post Malone, 2. Shale is simply a unicorn. Shaffer on the piano, and Seacurry Strong , Ana Gastia and Maya Rudolph.

One Missing thing is special dedicated to sports stars who appeared in SNL, starting from Frantalkenton (January 29, 1977) through Travisquels (March 4, 2023). And that's fine. Because if you can't fill that void in this space, what are you doing here in the first place?
