Saturday Night Live’s Take on Melania Trump Documentary

“Saturday Night Live” recently took a jab at a new documentary featuring Melania Trump, even making light of her accent during a “Weekend Update” segment.

Colin Jost and Michael Che had a good laugh at the theatrical release of “Melania,” which centers on the 20 days leading up to President Trump’s second inauguration.

“This week, a documentary about Melania Trump hit theaters, titled ‘Wicked: For Real,'” Jost quipped, cleverly riffing off the popular show “Wicked: For Good,” which got an immediate chuckle from the audience.

The segment showcased a mock movie poster with a greenish hue, depicting the first lady seated and posing for the camera.

The hosts also zeroed in on Trump’s accent and her English skills, noting her roots in Slovenia. “Melania was directed by Rush Hour’s Brett Ratner, which explains this scene,” Jost mentioned, before cutting to a edited clip from the 1998 comedy where Chris Tucker, in place of Jackie Chan, quips to Melania, “Can you speak any English? Can you understand the words that come out of my mouth?”

This edited scene continued to poke fun at her background, with Tucker’s line drawing both laughter and a sense of irony.

“Melania” marks the first feature film directed by Ratner since he faced multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault in 2017, which he denies. He’s also featured in various photos linked to Jeffrey Epstein, including one with Jean-Luc Brunel, a modeling agent accused of scouting young girls for Epstein, who died in a Paris prison in 2022.

Meanwhile, Amazon has paid $75 million for the distribution rights to “Melania,” which managed to pull in over $7 million during its opening weekend, making it the top documentary debut in ten years.
