Snoop Dogg Teams Up with Zac Brown Band for New Collaboration
Snoop Dogg is collaborating with the Zac Brown Band for a country rap project titled “Gangster Gumbo.” They released their track, “Let It Run,” on July 18. Just a few days later, Snoop surprised fans at a Zac Brown Band concert in Los Angeles by performing the song live and filming part of its music video.
In an interview, Snoop shared how the collaboration came about during a partnership with Raising Cane’s for a promotional campaign. He mentioned how the band’s style resonated with him and made it feel like a natural fit.
“They reached out to me when they played records that felt right for me,” he explained. “I’ve always been a fan of Zac.” He highlighted the beauty of blending musical genres, saying, “It’s about bringing everyone together through music.”
Snoop described his approach to fusing his distinct West Coast hip hop style with the Zac Brown Band’s Southern sound. “I think that’s what makes it appealing. When I’m called, they want my style included in theirs to create a ‘gangster gumbo,'” he said, using an analogy that seems fitting for this collaboration.
Joining Zac Brown, the band also features members like Jimmy de Martini and Chris Frier. “Let It Run” is a laid-back ballad celebrating cannabis culture and will be part of their new album, “Love & Fear,” set to be released on December 5—their first album in four years.
This isn’t Snoop’s first dip into the country genre; he mentioned that he also released a song called “gettin’ gone” this year. He’s been working with country music veterans like Willie Nelson over the years, which has helped shape his appreciation for the genre.
Snoop talked about his long history with Nelson, recalling their collaborations dating back to 2008. Their chemistry seems to have formed a strong friendship, one that Snoop values deeply. In fact, he expressed how Nelson’s warmth encouraged him to explore country music further.
Thoughtful remarks from Snoop reveal his broader view on the music industry, expressing that genres should be fluid. “Music is music,” he said. “If it feels good to you, it has to be good for you.” His journey through various musical styles, from R&B to reggae, demonstrates his belief in this versatility.
Currently, he’s also involved with Raising Cane’s, where he’s promoting Chicken Finger Day on July 27. This partnership stemmed from his love for the fast-food chain and his close friendship with its founder, Todd Graves. “I order this every day, all day,” he stated, illustrating his genuine affection for the brand.
In a quirky tidbit, Snoop shared that his personal orders are a bit unconventional—calling for 17 strips and two scoops of fries that aren’t even on the menu. His unique requests highlight his playful persona, which comes through even in his food choices.
As he wraps up his thoughts, Snoop reflects on his collaboration with Graves, emphasizing his desire to create something special that resonates on a personal level. “Every time I have a Cane’s, it’s a fun situation,” he remarked, capturing the essence of his creative spirit.
