Snoop Dogg’s Olympic Coaching Role Faces Turbulence
Things seem to be a bit rocky for Snoop Dogg in his role as an Olympic coach.
Reports surfaced on Wednesday about an incident involving security guards and Dutch speed skating great, Marianne Timmer. She’s currently in Milan-Cortina serving as a media commentator. Timmer mentioned feeling “further cornered against the wall” while waiting to speak with athletes after the 1,000m speed skating event at the Milan Speed Skating Stadium.
“I was standing against the wall, and one of the guards pulled me closer,” Timmer said. She recounted her experience to Sportnieuws, adding, “I said, ‘Just act normal.’ It was a really big hall, like 15 feet long, but then the guard came back and asked, ‘What? Do we have to go through that wall or something?'”
She noted that after she expressed her concerns, the guards returned with a “completely hostile” attitude towards her. Apparently, she’d also witnessed another individual being “roughly removed” by security, leading her to worry that she might be next.
Reflecting on the situation, she said, “I could imagine myself being grabbed by the neck and thrown out. That would have made for quite a story.”
Snoop Dogg is in Milan serving as Team USA’s “honorary coach,” a new title he’s taken on recently after making multiple appearances on NBC during the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. In a press announcement by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, he emphasized that he intends to motivate Team USA players using his humor and heart.
2026 Winter Olympics
Snoop remarked, “Team USA’s athletes are real stars, and I’m just here to cheer them on, lift their spirits, and share a bit of wisdom from the sidelines. This team represents the best in the sport — talent, heart, and enthusiasm. If I can add more love and motivation, that’s a win for me.”
He’s been keeping busy, having carried the Olympic torch last week and cheering for Team USA at various events. His fun attempts at sports like curling have also grabbed headlines. Additionally, he returned as an anchor on NBC.
As for Team USA, they’ve bagged 13 medals so far at the Milan-Cortina Games, which includes four golds — the third-highest total. Yet, despite Snoop Dogg’s enthusiasm, it appears that all isn’t as smooth behind the scenes.
