Disney’s Live-Action “Snow White” Receives Razzie Nominations
Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of “Snow White,” set for release in 2025, has become a prime contender for the Razzie Awards.
The Razzie Awards, officially known as the Golden Raspberry Awards, is a humorous take on films where voters choose the worst major film of the year.
In a recent press release, the Razzies highlighted their upcoming nominees. Disney’s “Snow White” was mentioned as a contender, described by the organization as “a slow-paced, needlessly re-imagined classic,” which they found full of “endless music, goofy CGI dwarfs, and an abundance of mediocrity.” It’s interesting how a classic can sometimes miss the mark, right?
This year, the film secured nominations in several categories, including Worst Picture, Worst Remake, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and others. Notably, the animations of the dwarfs inspired two specific nominations: Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo.
Gal Gadot Speaks Out
Gal Gadot, one of the film’s stars, has recently attributed criticism of the film to Hollywood’s tension surrounding interpretations of Israel.
The “Snow White” remake shares the spotlight this year with the 2025 “War of the Worlds” reboot featuring Ice Cube. The Razzies described the latter as a combination of modern technology and panic, questioning the film’s logic in a humorous manner.
The winners of the 46th Razzie Awards are set to be revealed on March 14, the day before the Oscars.
Disney’s “Snow White” has faced significant backlash and controversy throughout its production process.
Rachel Zegler’s Remarks
Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White, has not expressed concern over how her views on Gaza might impact her career, adding to the ongoing debates about the film.
Back in 2022, actor Peter Dinklage pointed out the contradictory nature of Disney’s diversity efforts while still telling a story that struggles with modern sensibilities. His comments seem to resonate with many critics.
In response to criticism, Disney contemplated replacing dwarfs with mixed-gender magical creatures but later reverted to using computer-generated animations resembling the classic characters.
Zegler stirred further controversy by not holding back her opinions on the original 1937 film and making pointed remarks about political figures, including Donald Trump.
Film’s Financial Struggles
According to an update on IMDB, the film is being labeled “officially a huge flop.” It’s reported that its revenue of $205.5 million falls significantly short of its $410 million production and marketing costs, resulting in estimated losses exceeding $115 million. It really shows how high expectations do not always translate into success at the box office.
