Soccer player from St. Benedict's Prep suspended for reportedly grabbing a photographer

A high school soccer player in New Jersey has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities following his involvement in an altercation after a game. This incident included a player who reportedly grabbed the neck of a news cameraman.

Amaduhan, a junior forward for St. Benedict Prep, is barred from both practicing and playing during his suspension, and it’s uncertain when he might be able to return. Reports from NJ Advanced Media noted the suspension on Tuesday.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), which oversees high school sports in the state, has confirmed the suspension and is launching its own investigation into the incident that took place Saturday night in Jersey City, according to a spokesperson.

Mike Cherenson, a spokesperson for the NJSIAA, emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, “The safety and respect for all participants, including media members, is fundamental to our mission.”

A spokesperson for St. Benedict mentioned that the school is working with the NJSIAA to determine what further actions might be necessary.

During the match between St. Benedict Prep and St. Peter’s Prep, Han, who is considered one of the top players in the 2027 class, found himself in a dispute on the field. A video shared by NJ Advanced Media showed players from both sides exchanging shoves and punches, and at one point, Han was seen trying to break up the confrontation.

Although there were reports of the photographer being attacked during the scuffle, this specific moment was not captured on video.

Photojournalist Tom Horack, who was covering the game for NJ Advanced Media, recalled that Han approached him, asking him to delete a photo depicting the brawl. Horack also asserted that Han had grabbed him by the throat, leaving a mark on his neck.

The principal of St. Benedict, Rev. Edwin Leahy, criticized the incident, saying, “What Amadow did was absolutely wrong as far as I’m concerned.”
