Solana Mobile started shipping its second-generation mobile devices on Monday, making them available in over 50 countries.
After gathering more than 150,000 pre-orders, the Seeker phone boasts improved technology, mobile-native crypto wallets, and an app store designed to circumvent the “cryptophobia censorship” often found in traditional app markets.
Emmett Hollyer, the general manager of Solana Mobile, shared with Cointelegraph that the Seeker represents a significant hardware upgrade from the previous saga model. He mentioned, “What truly differentiates the Seeker is its on-chain functionality.”
One standout feature of the device is Seed Vault, which Hollyer explained provides hardware-level security. This allows users to engage with their apps while keeping their private keys and seed phrases entirely separate from the application layer for added privacy.

Solana Mobile aims to attract both developers and crypto enthusiasts. Developers can take advantage of an alternative app marketplace that avoids the hefty fees imposed by Google and Apple stores. Meanwhile, crypto fans will likely appreciate enhancements to their mobile experience—like trading NFTs, gaming, and utilizing DeFi applications.
The device is available in two price tiers ($450 and $500), and it is estimated that Solana Mobile, a division of Solana Labs, could generate upwards of $67.5 million in total revenue.
In its previous iteration, the Saga, which sold 20,000 units, faced delays until Memecoin, stored on the devices, made the purchase worthwhile.
Tepin architecture for decentralization and security
With the Seeker, Solana Mobile strives to diversify the economic incentives surrounding mobile devices. This is facilitated by a technology known as Teepin—which stands for “trustworthy execution environment platform infrastructure network.”
Teepin features a three-tier architecture that decentralizes various elements of a device, ranging from access control to app distribution. It connects hardware, verified software, users, and network guardians, aiming to create a distributed mobile platform.
Conventional mobile devices often use a hybrid model that blends aspects of centralization, like app stores and internal security measures. In contrast, decentralization is a key tenet of Web3 technology.
Hollyer explained that Teepin Architecture will also offer additional security capabilities for the Seeker, stating, “We ensure security through proof of encryption. Devices can demonstrate to the network that they are running legitimate software.”
Apple software app store rules
Apple, a tech giant valued at $3 trillion, finds itself amid antitrust controversies, accused of restricting developers’ ability to communicate with users and imposing fees for in-app purchases.
A recent court ruling appears to favor cryptocurrency app developers. Following the decision, these developers gained the ability to link to external NFT collections or payment systems without incurring additional fees. This legal battle was primarily between Epic Games and Apple.
The crypto app landscape is also navigating scrutiny from regulatory bodies worldwide. Centralized app stores can block apps based on such rulings, as illustrated by Google restricting access to 17 unregistered exchanges in Korea.
