On the par-3 fourth hole, Lexi Thompson's tee shot flew straight toward the flag and just landed on the green, just 15 feet short. Maya Stark got it a few feet inside. Almost everyone is just a little short on this hole today. Putting contest coming up soon!
Carlota Ciganda is notoriously slow, but Nelly Korda slowly makes a fairly straight uphill birdie shot on the fifth hole. She didn't put enough pressure on it and the ball stopped short of the turn, wasting time. Emily Pedersen had a chance from eight feet, but her effort was wasted. Both teams will regret missing that putt. It was a very easy putt.

Anna Nordqvist hits an iron powerfully out of the thick rough on the bottom left, 2-15 feet. When the Americans were out of position (Sarah Schmeltzel hit into the bunker), Céline Boutier made the birdie putt for the win. It missed right, but a 10-foot right-to-left tickle from Lilia Vu clipped the edge but didn't fall, so par was enough. Europe started strong in the anchor match, but the Americans also started fast in the third match. A pin-high arrow from Lexi Thompson was enough to hole in on the third hole.

Charlie Hall hit a 9-iron high on the par-3 fourth hole. A great shot five feet over the flag. Perhaps a little surprised by the quality of the shots on the hole, Jennifer Kupcho hit an uncharacteristically weak shot that bounced off the green. Allie Ewing still had a half chance to make a birdie putt from the fringe, but it was a big advantage for Europe.
Sarah Schneerzel missed a short par putt wide left on the first hole. Or was it a misreading? Either way, she and her partner, Lilia Vu, looked genuinely shocked that the ball hadn't fallen. That put the USA out of the hole. There was some good news for the hosts on the second hole, when Lexi Thompson calmly sunk a 12-foot birdie putt. It was a decent start overall for Europe, but this is golf and mistakes are made.

Neither Nelly Korda nor Emily Pedersen will be able to get it onto the green on the par-3 fourth hole, but their partners will still have to make putts from the front apron. First up was Alisen Corpas, her putts were hard to make but close enough to secure par. This gave Carlota Ciganda a chance to put Europe three strokes ahead with an uphill 20 foot putt that always went wide left. At the half both teams advanced to the next round.
From a fairway bunker on the second hole, Esther Henseleit hit the ball to five feet on Europe's second hole. That's enough to win the hole. More good news on the third hole. Alyssen Copus' wedge isn't very good, and Nelly Korda hits a long par putt. She doesn't get the putt very far past the cup, and the hole is conceded as Emily Pedersen hits Europe's second putt to 10 feet. Back on the first hole, Coughlin makes a good call by opting to chip rather than putt, hitting it at a crisp clip out to the kick-in distance. The hole is halved.

The anchor match has begun. Anna Nordqvist tees off and glances anxiously at her partner. Where's that ball? It's lost in the sun. No worries, it's flying straight down the middle. Nordqvist is serenaded with a chorus of “Anna, we love you, really, Anna, we love you!” but that's nothing compared to the ear-splitting, powerful screams of Lilia Vu across the fairway. Well then, that's what's happening!
Lexi Thompson and Maja Stark take turns sending average approaches to one. Thompson is on the right forward fringe, from where Lauren Coughlin hands the read to Georgia Hall, because Europe's ball is 10 feet away on the road.
The third match was played on the first tee, with an especially rapturous ovation for Lexi Thompson, playing her final round in the Solheim Cup. Georgia Hall hit a good drive left but the ball bounced into the thick rough, and Lauren Coughlin smashed it across the fairway. Around the green, Esther Henseleitn popped out of the bunker to six feet, but Charlie Hull made the par putt and the hole went to the USA. There was more good news for Europe on the second hole, when Emily Pedersen converted a birdie chance set up by Carlota Ciganda to put the visitors in the lead in the lead match.

In the leadoff match, both teams are out of position on the right side of the second hole. Alisen Corpus hit the front part of the green well, but Nelly Korda had to make a long putt. Carlota Ciganda hit a low shot over the hill and it rolled 10 feet. She knew it was a good result, spun her club around and flew over the bank to see her accomplishment. Europe has the advantage in the coming putting contest.
Charlie Hull caught his first shot of the day a little thin from a fairway bunker on the bottom right of the first hole. The ball flew into the front right of the greenside bunker. Jennifer Kupcho, who was darting at the flag on the back nine yesterday morning, smashed her approach into the middle of the green, giving the U.S. another chance for birdie from 30 feet.
The second match appears at work. Ali Ewing and Jennifer Kupcho came into view full of energy, despite being the only U.S. foursomes to lose yesterday morning. A chance to right that wrong against Estelle Henseleit and Charlie Hull. In the stands, a number of American red foam fingers were waving. When Henseleit found the same bunker as Carlota Ciganda, there was a respectful silence. When Ali Ewing found the same left side of the fairway as Allison Corpus, there was a commotion. And away they went. Meanwhile, on the green, neither Corpus nor Ciganda got particularly close for birdie, but both teams agreed to pick up the coin and move on. Nice and friendly, but if this continued to the 18th, we wouldn't expect a similar three-foot birdie to be conceded.

Ewing/Kupcho vs. Henseleit/Hull
First up is Nelly Korda. She hits her hybrid safely into the center of the green at pin height from 200 yards. The putt is from about 30 feet, but still a decent chance for birdie. Emily Pedersen has to answer, hitting Europe's second shot back over the flag. The ball rolls apologetically onto the fringe but doesn't land on the bank, a cruel outcome for such a great shot. Europe is left with about a 20-foot birdie putt. The first putting contest of the day is about to begin!
Carlota Ciganda hits her opening shot of the second day… and drives the European ball into a large bunker at the bottom right of the fairway. It's not ideal, but it's not the worst place. Alisen Corpus laps confidently down the fairway to rapturous cheers orchestrated by her partner Nelly Korda. There's another great atmosphere in the grandstands, which are much fuller this morning than they were early yesterday, and the shuttle buses now seem to be running on time.
Good morning, Virginia! The lead match goes to the first tee and as Europe emerges from the tunnel, Emily Pedersen makes a theatrical bow in front of Carlota Ciganda and swipes the ball away. Last year's hero, the Spaniard, is the heart of the European team in the old Seve, Sergio and Ian Poulter style, so it's no wonder that Suzann Pettersen will send her out in the first match and hope to set the tone for a comeback. Ciganda is also notoriously slow in her play and was timed at one point yesterday. And her methodical style hits Nelly Korda right in the heart. Korda likes to play quickly, so will this disrupt her flow? The world number one won games 3 and 2, 6 and 4 yesterday, so Pettersen had to try something. Let's see what happens!
Preamble: America 6-2 Europe
The U.S. team, led by Stacy Lewis, established a record lead on the first day. Suzann Pettersen's Europeans need to react quickly. The 2024 Solheim Cup wouldn't be over if Europe failed to advance in this morning's foursomes… but Almost It's over. The Big 4 matches are coming up.
