Some Cities ‘Have Been Sort of Invaded’ and Federal Task Force Would Help

On Friday's broadcast of FOX News Channel's “The Story,” former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who also served as U.S. Customs Commissioner under President Bill Clinton and assistant secretary for enforcement at the U.S. Treasury Department, commented on the matter. “We know that major cities are kind of being invaded by several gangs, some of which are the most violent This includes the Toren de Aragua gang. “A task force with the NYPD and other major city police departments would be helpful.”

“We know that major cities are kind of being overrun by several gangs, including the most violent gang, Torren de Aragua,” Kelly said. We also know that they are in cities like New York, Chicago, Dallas, El Paso, etc. And I think that gives the basis of jurisdiction for the federal government to get involved. I think a task force with the police departments in the major cities would be helpful. This Torren de Aragua is a particularly vicious gang, and if you look at their history in South America, there's a lot. There was murder, there was a lot of drug trafficking, there was a lot of human trafficking. So the major police departments in this country, as well as the police force, are understaffed with police officers who are retiring in large numbers. It's very difficult to hire a replacement, so I think this is something that should be seriously considered.”

After the discussion turned to scooter crime in New York City, Kelly said: As I said before, if you look at their history in South America, it was very violent. Frankly, the NYPD is understaffed. We don't have enough people to cover this type of crime in detail. So I think if the gang division works with the FBI and federal resources, it could make a big difference. ”
