Young Americans and 9/11: A 25-Year Perspective

As the 25th anniversary of the tragic 9/11 attacks approaches, many young Americans are still sharing posts with the phrase “Never Forget.” However, there are concerns that this generation may be losing sight of the significance behind those events.

“It seems like people who weren’t there just don’t grasp the reality of what we faced. There’s something that shifts in you when you experience something like that. The younger folks? Well, I think they really don’t get it,” said BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales in a conversation with Xaviaer DuRousseau.

She continued, saying that, “If you didn’t live through it, you might brush it off. It’s almost as if they think welcoming ideologies like those espoused by jihadists won’t cause problems. They just haven’t felt the impact.”

DuRousseau mentioned a concerning incident a while ago on TikTok, where users were seen supporting Osama bin Laden.

“It’s alarming that this kind of mindset is being celebrated. It’s as if people with that jihadi ideology are gaining traction here, and they’re very vocal about it,” he remarked.

Gonzales also pointed to the situation in New York City, “We even have this leftist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, who faced protests for attending the 9/11 memorial. Yet, he went anyway.”

She highlighted a moment where Mamdani was caught laughing with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while the names of the 9/11 victims were being read, saying, “I mean, can you believe it? The whole thing is just insane.”

DuRousseau added, “That shows how little they seem to care about the gravity of all this.”

He expressed disappointment, suggesting that as New York City’s mayor, one should be deeply aware of the city’s history and the trauma its citizens endure. “Instead, he was off laughing with AOC—like, how wild is that?”
