Some reporters are ‘really mad’ Colorado didn’t lose

Coach Deion Sanders has been aggressive with the media in recent weeks, and that trend continued after his Colorado team won its season-opening game against North Dakota State on Thursday night.

One of Sanders's biggest feuds has been with CBS, where he at one point refused to answer questions from the network's Colorado affiliate.

The feud with CBS has since died down, and during a postgame press conference after the Buffaloes beat the Bisons 31-26, Sanders turned to CBS Colorado reporter Romi Bean, with whom he co-hosts a show each week, for a question.

Beane asked Sanders a question about beating a team that doesn't make unforced errors, like North Dakota State, and after Sanders answered, he turned his attention to alleged haters in the media.

“Well, you have to understand we have a huge number of athletes and we knew it was going to be difficult to cover them from the back,” Sanders told reporters.

“We knew it was going to be tough for them, given how accurate Sheduar was. We just had to contain them, make stops and get the ball. I think we had nearly three times as much possession in the first half as they did, so we didn't get the ball very often, but we knew if we could make some defensive adjustments and get stops, things would turn around for us.”

The shift to assertive answers came when Sanders said it was wins and losses that mattered, not the margin of victory.

“And we did that, but we knew they weren't going to surrender,” he continued.

“We wanted a decisive win and we would have been better off not allowing that last touchdown. But we're not about appearances. It's win or lose. That's what you're going to remember. You can criticize all you want, and sorry ladies, but you're here for win or lose. Some of you are mad that we won. Some of you are really mad that we didn't lose. So God bless you all. We'll have to wait until next week…

“Everyone, be careful on your way home, okay?”

Sanders' other recent feuds with the media include banning a Denver Post columnist from asking questions at a press conference and a heated exchange with ESPN anchor Paul Finebaum.
