Some Republicans wish for Trump and Musk to reconcile after their harsh split

Some Republicans hope Trump, Musk mend fences after blistering breakup

A number of Republicans are hoping for a reconciliation between President Trump and Elon Musk following a recent public fallout between the two.

This desire for unity might be under pressure as some suggest that both billionaires should work to gain support from lawmakers as the GOP aims to expedite the Trump Megaville agenda that Musk criticized, especially with an eye on the upcoming 2026 mid-term elections.

Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) mentioned during a press briefing, “I met with the president yesterday and witnessed some of this unfold. He expressed his disappointment over Elon’s unexpected opposition.” He seemed optimistic about a potential reconciliation, stating, “I believe in red. If things work out positively, it’s beneficial for both the party and the country.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) emphasized her allegiance to Trump, noting that social media disputes shouldn’t overshadow their disagreements. She remarked, “Given how small the world is, arguing online doesn’t seem the best way to resolve things.” Greene reinforced her intention to keep focusing on Trump’s agenda.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) echoed this sentiment, jokingly suggesting that they seek relationship advice. “I believe that they can make amends,” he remarked, recalling a conversation with his wife about their shared affection for both figures.

The tension peaked recently, showcasing a rift between the two influential figures. Their back-and-forth over a substantial proposal devolved into name-calling, as Musk labeled Trump’s actions as “nasty hatred.” Trump responded, reflecting on their past relationship and expressing uncertainty about its future.

Some in Congress appear torn regarding this division, with Trump allies like Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) lamenting the situation. “You’ve lost your heart in this,” he commented, urging Musk to reconsider his stance.

Meanwhile, Trump doesn’t seem eager to mend fences just yet. In an interview, he mentioned having no immediate plans to reach out to Musk, describing him as “a man who lost his heart.” His aides have hinted at hoping to move past the drama while focusing on legislative priorities.

Musk appears open to a possible thaw, especially after Bill Ackman encouraged the duo to set aside differences for the sake of unity, to which Musk reacted positively.

Yet, there are still differing opinions among Trump’s advisors regarding the likelihood of reconciliation. Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) compared the situation to the dramatic narratives of the wrestling world, suggesting that, like in WWE, the two could eventually return to collaborating for a greater cause. “In the end, I believe this can be resolved,” he said, expressing hope for future collaboration between the two influential figures.
