Some Supplies Aren’t Designed for Firefighting, Wind Kept Us from Getting Water from Above

On Wednesday's broadcast of Fox News Channel's “The Story,” Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Sheila Kelliher said the city's water system is not designed for firefighting, and strong winds hamper air support and the ability to bring in water. He said there were also problems. On top of that.

Kelliher said nature “is in charge and the winds are making this fire very difficult to fight.”

She added: “There are water tanks in this area…These are not built for a 15-hour gunfight. The water is for everyone's use.” It's just not designed for that. These are designed for residential use and not for field firefighting. So they did a great job getting it back online. So they worked really hard for that. Another disadvantage for us was that air support was useless if the wind was too strong. As such, it received a lot of air support and water coming from above. We also relied on groundwater. ”

Kelliher also said he believed the Palisades needed a tank system because of its terrain.
