Two men searching a fishing hole in northwest Indiana spotted something shiny and discovered a man trapped inside a truck for six days.
The day after Christmas was a day they would never forget. Mario Garcia and his son-in-law, Nivaldo Delatorre, were out looking for a fishing hole when they discovered the wrecked truck. They investigated the area after spotting a glowing object in the distance. It was Matthew R. Room.
Matthew was a 27-year-old welder from Mishawaka, Indiana, who fell off the road after welding. I swerved to avoid the deer. He remained paralyzed in his seat and unable to call his cell phone for help.
Survive for 6 days by drinking rainwater
Matthew was able to survive those six days by drinking rainwater. But if Garcia and his son-in-law hadn't found him when they did, he might not have survived his injuries.
“It's a miracle he's alive in this weather.” Said Indiana State Police Sergeant Glenn Fifield. Temperatures in the area reached a low of 29 degrees, and it was truly a miracle that he was able to withstand it and survive.

On January 4th, Matthew posted on Facebook. He told his story of losing a leg with an above-the-knee amputation, breaking his ankle, and breaking his hand. Despite all this, he share Thank you for your kind words regarding this situation. “It's been a week and she's been a day since she was rescued and I'm so happy. In the last week and a half, I've seen so much more love than just random acts of kindness. .”
It is heartwarming to see people offering support to this young man. He has overcome many challenges. Knowing that there are people supporting him must be of great comfort on the road to recovery.
The road to recovery may be long overall, but finding Matthew when I did was a gift from God. Nivaldo Delatorre: “We were put there for a reason” Said. And he's absolutely right in that because they were in the right place at the right time.
We must thank God for watching over Matthew those six days and guiding the fisherman to his truck.
