McGinn allegedly told police that he knew what he was doing was wrong, but that he was addicted to cocaine and downloaded the illegal images after going on a “bender” over the weekend. He denied ever abusing children himself.
He was charged with one count of first-degree trafficking in depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and one count of first-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. was charged with the crime.
Prosecutors asked for $100,000 bail, but McGinn’s attorney asked that he be released on his own recognizance.
“The basis of our bail request is that we believe Mr. McGinn is likely to commit acts of violence if released, given the depraved nature of the depictions he possessed and had access to.” Said Deputy Prosecutor Julian Haley appeared in court.
A judge set bail at $70,000, and McGinn was able to post bail and be released on Saturday.
They were also restricted from owning devices that allow them to access the Internet without supervision and ordered to keep them away from minors, alcohol and non-prescription drugs, without exception.
Mr. McGinn is scheduled to be arraigned in King County Superior Court on April 15. His lawyer told the court that he works for a technology installation company and has no criminal record.
The suspect’s father, Michael McGinn, is 64 and a Democrat who served as Seattle’s mayor from 2010 to 2013.
