Son of Fashion Mogul Arrested in Investigation of Father’s Death
The son of a billionaire fashion mogul, known for his apparel brand, was detained in Spain on Tuesday. This comes as authorities look into the circumstances surrounding his father’s death following a fall in a mountain area near Barcelona.
Isak Andic, aged 71, passed away in December 2024 after falling from a steep cliff while hiking with his son Jonathan, who is now 45. Jonathan was the sole witness to the incident.
Initially ruled an accident, Isak’s death is now being examined as a potential homicide.
Jonathan Andic was released on €1 million bail and has been instructed to surrender his passport while he remains in Spain during the ongoing investigation.
He asserts he did nothing wrong, and his family stands by his innocence. The Andic family released a statement claiming, “There is no valid evidence against him, and there will never be any.”
His defense lawyer, Cristóbal Martel, also remarked on the situation, saying the murder theory is not accurate and describes it as “painful” for an innocent man. He emphasized that the truth will emerge as the legal process unfolds.
Isak Andic built Mango into a significant global brand since founding it in 1984. Originally from Istanbul, he moved to Catalonia in the 1960s and turned Mango into a competing force against Zara. At the time of his death, he was considered one of Spain’s wealthiest individuals, with a net worth estimated at $4.5 billion.
Jonathan Andic, being the eldest of Isak’s three children, is currently the Vice Chairman of Mango’s board.
The investigation is ongoing, and developments are expected as the case continues to evolve.
