Sophia Popov achieved a heartfelt victory on Mother’s Day during the Epson Tour.

Sunday was Mother’s Day in the U.S., a significant occasion that still coincided with notable happenings in golf. One highlight was the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Classic on the Epson Tour. Sofia Popov claimed her fifth professional win, celebrated with her family—spanning four generations—present to witness the triumph.

As a resident of Arizona and the 2020 AIG Women’s Open champion, Popov’s victory was particularly poignant. During her remarks, she became quite emotional, especially reflecting on her 2-year-old daughter, Maya, and the day’s significance.

“This opportunity comes only once a year, so I believe this week fueled my determination. It felt like a home event ending on Mother’s Day, and I really wanted to win… I’m not sure if she’ll get to see her mom win on Mother’s Day again,” she shared.

Her father was caddying for her, making the day a true family affair. It’s clear how deeply moving the experience was for her, particularly after the challenges she faced in recent times. With this victory, following her first LPGA major at Chevron and a T30 finish, Popov is now positioned for more opportunities to excel.

Congratulations to her and her family.
