Contentious Comments in WNBA
Sophie Cunningham has a lot to say, especially when it comes to comments from Skip Bayless.
She recently suggested that her teammate, Kate Clark, might be downplaying the seriousness of the injuries she sustained back on July 15. “It’s literally the Bulls. No one’s lying,” Cunningham asserted on her “Show Me Something” podcast, despite the season coming to an end early due to her knee injury. She added, “When you’re an elite-level player, it’s the hardest part mentally, physically, and emotionally when you can’t play.”
“When people say things like that, I’m just like ‘Shut up’,” she remarked, clearly frustrated.
Cunningham, while off the court due to her injury, still manages to voice her opinions and criticisms. The 29-year-old mentioned that she’s been fined by the WNBA for her previous podcast episodes.
Since July 15, Clark has been sidelined, unable to play due to a right leg injury. Bayless has stirred up controversy, questioning whether Clarke’s latest injury is genuine after the WNBA sophomore only played 22 out of 35 games this season.
“I wondered if Caitlyn Clark had taken some ‘injury breaks’ just to deal with all the jealousy and resentment she faced,” Bayless expressed on his show.
This second pro season for Clark has been marred by injuries, including a mild bone bruise from training earlier this month, which affected her left ankle, complicating her recovery process.
The latest injury has added some uncertainty surrounding when one of the league’s standout players will return. “Until she can practice and until you actually see her, that’s really the situation,” said Indiana manager Stephanie White in a press conference.
Cunningham had little to offer in response to that. “I don’t know. Everyone keeps asking. [Clark] I don’t know. That’s every day,” she admitted.
Sophie Cunningham disagrees with Skip Bayless’ comments about Caitlin Clark’s injury.
