Sophie Cunningham couldn’t resist taking a playful shot at her close friend, Caitlyn Clark.
In a humorous exchange on social media, Cunningham shared two images. One displayed a group of goats in a zoo, while the other showed Clark embracing someone in the arena.
A user had humorously commented, “These are the same photos,” implying that Clark was, even at this early stage of her career, akin to a ‘greatest of all time’ in women’s basketball.
Cunningham, 29, quickly jumped on this joke, cheekily stating, “They smell the same,” in a tweet.
If there’s anyone who can poke fun at Clark, it’s definitely Cunningham. She has established herself as a formidable defender and supporter of Clark, the WNBA Rookie of the Year, right from the start.
On her debut podcast, “Show Me Something,” in July, Cunningham expressed disbelief at anyone questioning Clark’s role as the face of the WNBA.
“When people try to claim it,” she said regarding those who doubt Clark’s significance, “if it’s not the face of our league, you’re as clueless as can be.”
Cunningham has also stood up for Clark during a recent clash with the Connecticut Sun.
This season, she, Clark, and teammate Lexi Hull have formed a close bond. Earlier in May, Clark humorously teased them about their tans on social media.
While Clark has been limited to just 13 games this season due to an injury, the Fever currently sit in 7th place with a record of 18-16.
They also secured the Commissioner’s Cup earlier in the season.
Cunningham is averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists over 28 minutes of playtime.
Recently, she stirred some conversation by suggesting that Paige Bueckers might get preferential treatment from officials, hinting that Clark might not be receiving the calls she deserves.
