Sophie Cunningham Set to Release Signature Sneakers
Earning a signature sneaker is a significant achievement for a professional basketball player, and it seems Sophie Cunningham of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever is next in line for this honor.
You might remember her from the viral finger-pointing meme that circulated online recently.
According to sources, the WNBA star is gearing up to launch her own pair of shoes, set to debut later this month.
Adidas plans to introduce the Crazy Energy Sophie Cunningham PE on July 24, with a price tag of $120. Not too bad, really, for a player’s signature shoe.
Honestly, the color scheme is not entirely my taste, but the price makes it appealing for a sports fan.
Some fans have voiced their opinions, criticizing Cunningham, who averaged just eight points per game in her career, for getting her own line of shoes.
To that, I’d respond with a reminder that she has a whopping 2 million followers on Instagram and has gained attention recently for a viral moment involving DeWanna Bonner of the Phoenix Mercury.
It’s clear, even if her stats don’t land her in the Hall of Fame, she’s undeniably marketable.
While sports might be a pure meritocracy, business decisions often revolve around profit potential.
It’s interesting to note that Cunningham’s teammate, Caitlin Clark, fits both performance and marketability. Yet, it seems the WNBA hasn’t fully embraced this.
But, in any case, Adidas isn’t overlooking the opportunity with Cunningham, that’s for sure.
