Controversy Among Indiana Fever Players
Sophie Cunningham, known as an “Enforcer” on the court, isn’t holding back when it comes to her opinions on fellow teammate Caitlin Clark. The tension seems to stem from their differing views on leisure activities, particularly after a recent social media upload.
Clark had sent out a playful jab at Cunningham and fellow player Lexie Hull, featuring them in swimsuits just before a match against the Los Angeles Sparks. The video had a caption poking fun, suggesting they could be the perfect fit for a swimsuit brand partnership. It read, “Convince us there is a swimsuit brand that we want to partner with two Indiana Fever mermaids.”
In response, Clark remarked on the idea of swimwear brands focusing on basketball. Cunningham took this to heart during a podcast episode, noting how Clark has been sidelined with injuries for about a month. “Hey, you’re messing up my vibe with Lexi. We’re trying to unwind a bit at the pool, and I think only a few brands have been in touch,” Cunningham said.
She then commented on Clark’s style, mentioning the differences in their swimsuit choices and jokingly pointing out Clark’s skin tone. Cunningham quipped, “I said, ‘Hey, no need for hate. I’ll find something that only highlights your eyes.’” The banter didn’t stop there; she teased Clark for a bruise on her leg, referring to it as progress in adding some color.
Interestingly, Cunningham had previously stirred the pot by defending Clark during a heated exchange with Connecticut Sun player Jacee Sheldon, which led to her being kicked out and fined. However, this incident seemingly boosted her social media following, pushing her past a million followers on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Despite the playful back-and-forth, Cunningham has been vocal about what she perceives as unfair treatment towards Clark by referees and opposing players, asserting that Clark represents the face of the league. Now, however, it seems she’s not shying away from throwing some verbal jabs at her teammate, highlighting the complexities of their relationship on and off the court.
