Sophie Cunningham’s Recovery Update
Sophie Cunningham is staying positive as she recuperates from a season-ending injury, showing off some dance moves in a recent video.
The clip that’s making the rounds online features her dancing to Renee Rapp’s song, “I think I like you when you’re gone.” Cunningham, 29, shared this after undergoing surgery for an MCL tear in her right knee.

Her injury occurred during a game against the Connecticut Sun on August 17, when she collided with guard Bria Hartley in the second quarter of a narrow 99-93 victory for the Fever.
Cunningham discussed her injury in an episode of her podcast, “Show Me Something,” that aired on August 20. She addressed rumors suggesting Hartley had deliberately hurt her.
“I know Bria, and I’m really good friends with her. I wanted to share my thoughts in the pod instead of just tweeting it,” Cunningham explained.
“I don’t think it was done on purpose. It was just a basketball play, and I happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.” She expressed that it felt like unfortunate circumstances more than ill intent.
After transferring from the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham had been averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game this season up until her injury.
This season has been tough for the Fever, as they’ve also had to deal with injuries to players like Sidney Colson, who suffered an ACL tear, and Ahri MacDonald, who broke her foot. Caitlin Clark has been struggling with a groin injury, too, with no clear timeline for her return as the WNBA playoffs approach.
Currently, Indiana holds a record of 21-20 for the season.
