Sophie Cunningham struggles with a poor tee shot at the pro-am, drawing criticism from Caitlin Clark.

Sophie Cunningham certainly knows how to draw attention, especially when she’s got a golf club in her hands.

On Wednesday at the Anika Pro-Am held at Pelican Golf Club in Florida, Cunningham took on a caddy role for her teammate, Caitlin Clark. During the event, she made an attempt to hit a tee shot that missed the mark and almost went into the crowd—though it wasn’t entirely obvious what happened.

At the 10th tee, Cunningham hit a low shot that went into the spectators gathered near the hole. After the shot, there was a moment of confusion as fans reacted, with Clark exclaiming, “I fell, I fell.”

While there was some chaos, it seemed the audience enjoyed the incident. Someone could even be heard saying, “You didn’t hit him,” indicating that the mood was light.

Cunningham, smiling, jogged over to check on a man wearing a dark hat and blue jacket. By the time she reached him, he was already back on his feet.

“They’re just playing it up for the cameras,” a Golf Channel commentator remarked.

Cunningham gave the man a hug and handed him a golf ball, which he had inadvertently been part of the action for. They even posed for a quick photo together.

“I’m really sorry,” she told him.

Another star, Lexi Hull, who was also helping out with caddying for Clark, had a less eventful turn on the 10th hole.

Clark, a draw for large crowds, was competing alongside LPGA player Nelly Korda. Korda expressed her thoughts, saying, “It’s wild. That first tee shot felt like something from fiction. But it’s super fun, and Caitlin really connects people across sports. I’ve enjoyed spending time with her; she’s great.” She noted how much fun the whole atmosphere was.

During the day, fans cheered for Cunningham and Hull, calling for the team to keep them on board. In response, Cunningham quipped, “Tell them to pay us,” hinting at ongoing conversations about the new CBA.
