According to an investigation by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner (Democrat), who has ties to billionaire George Soros, is lightening criminal charges against immigrants to protect them from deportation.
investigation saw Mayor Krasner established an immigration law firm, paid for by city taxpayers, to provide legal representation to immigrants facing criminal prosecution by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
As a result, Krasner’s office “reduces charges to protect aliens from removal proceedings in U.S. immigration courts, regardless of what crimes the alien defendants committed,” the investigators said. Assert:
Such favoritism undermines a criminal justice system that should apply equally to all people, regardless of age, race, religion, income, social status, or immigration status. The bill also illegally infringes on the federal government’s authority to enforce the Immigration and Nationality Act and control the border. [Emphasis added]

IRLI Executive Director Dale Wilcox called Krasner’s actions “outrageous.”
“He is using the power of his office to help immigration violators evade the law in a manner that directly contradicts the district attorney’s purpose of prosecuting crimes,” Wilcox said. Said“Governor Krasner’s lenient attitude toward law enforcement has done Philadelphia enough harm. The last thing the city needs is to keep aliens there who have committed crimes worthy of deportation.”
Typically, when an immigrant is arrested or convicted of a crime, they can be deported from the U.S. Sanctuary cities like Philadelphia want to thwart this process by ensuring that immigrants who commit crimes don’t get turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.
The investigation found that Krasner’s immigration advisers assured immigrants facing charges that their charges would be reduced to avoid deportation.
“It’s absolutely shocking that a U.S. District Attorney’s Office would pursue such an irresponsible policy,” said Matt O’Brien of IRLI. “In essence, DA Krasner is rewarding foreigners for committing crimes in the United States.”
Krasner, who was elected in 2017, has raised about $1.7 million from the Soros-linked Philadelphia Justice and Public Safety PAC and is one of many Soros-backed district attorneys who have implemented policies that help immigrants who commit crimes avoid deportation.
Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón (D), Cook County District Attorney Kimberly Fox (D), Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton (D), Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), and Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt (D) have all implemented policies nearly identical to Krasner’s.
In recent years, Soros has spent over $40 million to elect far-left district attorneys across the U.S. As of 2023, Soros-backed district attorneys represent at least 20% of Americans.
