Soros family investing in House and Senate campaigns

A significant number of members from the affluent Soros family—over a dozen, it turns out—have collectively contributed more than $1.6 million to congressional candidates during the midterm campaigns. This indicates that their influence in American politics isn’t just limited to George Soros, the family patriarch, and his son Alex, who is set to take over his father’s $25 billion empire ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Among the notable contributors is Jonathan Soros, George’s son from his first marriage, and his wife, Jennifer Alan Soros. Together, they have donated a substantial $380,000 to various House and Senate races nationwide.

Jonathan, who is 55 and a Harvard Law graduate, manages a private investment firm called One Madison Group. Although he was overlooked as a front-runner for the family business, he met Jennifer during Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Since then, both have remained active behind the scenes in political matters.

Then there’s Andrea Soros, Jonathan’s sister and George’s daughter from his first marriage, who recently sold a luxury mansion for $46 million in the West Village. She’s contributed $26,000 to candidates with progressive views as the midterm elections approach.

Andrea’s husband, Eric Colombel, who runs a nonprofit organization, previously held significant wealth, ranking as one of the richest heirs with a fortune of $14 billion, second only to Michael Bloomberg’s daughter.

George Soros’ only daughter owns an impressive real estate portfolio that includes a sprawling estate in Rhinebeck, New York—a location previously frequented by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. She has notably donated $14,000 to Democratic presidential hopeful Jon Ossoff for this election cycle.

Robert Soros, George’s eldest son, has contributed $40,200 alongside his new wife, Jamie Singer Soros, a socialite. Their recent marriage took place in a high-profile ceremony in Connecticut.

Robert has had a complicated past, including a tumultuous $350 million divorce from his first wife—after an affair—and manages the family’s investment firm, Soros Capital Management.

Meanwhile, Robert’s children, including Julian Soros, a Yale-educated tech founder, and Eliza Soros, a film director, have also started participating in political donations, contributing a total of $2,200 this election cycle.

On the West Coast, George’s nephew, Jeffrey Soros, a Hollywood producer, has also been politically active, donating $12,500. His mother, Daisy Soros, contributed an additional $7,000.

The family has shown support for various Democratic candidates, including:

  • Abdul El-Sayed, a controversial U.S. Senate candidate in Michigan.
  • Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, who has made headlines for his claims about God.
  • Scott Colom, a Mississippi candidate who has faced criticism regarding his financial backers.
  • Rep. Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress, is running for re-election.
  • Colorado candidate Jessica Killin, who recently won a primary in a historically Republican area.

Alex Soros has been particularly aggressive in his political spending, pouring an impressive $103 million into the midterm elections through political funds associated with both his father and himself, potentially setting a new spending record in comparison to his father’s previous contributions.

Alex, often compared to a character from a popular show, is the fourth of George’s five children. He lives a high-profile life, regularly seen at events and sports games. He is married to Huma Abedin, a former aide to Hillary Clinton. At one extravagant wedding last summer, he mentioned that he might be more politically engaged than his celebrated father.
