South Africa to Send 3 Delegations to the U.S. — But Whom Will They Meet?

At least three separate South African delegations are planning to visit the US after President Donald Trump's criticism last week, but it's clear who they will meet in the new administration Not that.

South Africans were caught in surprise when Trump opposed the new law and when he issued freezing aid for executive orders. He criticizes South Africa along with Iran and Hamas. Provides asylum to farmers in Africa.

Former President Tabo Mbeki told SABC News that he was completely confused. “I'm not being honest… there's been a totally fundamental change in the actions of the Republicans in the US.”

But it's not only Republicans who have made South Africa's foreign and domestic policies sour.

The Democrats have lost their patience with South Africa. write South Africa should be punished by President Joe Biden in 2023 for supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

At least three separate delegations are planned. One is organized by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. One is arranged by the opposition Democratic Alliance. And there's one more Arrangement With union solidarity, it tends to represent white people and Afrikaans-speaking workers.

The first two delegations appear to be determined to explain to President Trump why he is wrong. The third seems to want to explain why he is right.

However, there are other challenges, except for the lack of commonality. No one may meet in a position of responsibility.

President Trump is unlikely to do that, just like Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He announced earlier this month that he would not attend the G20 conference on “anti-Americanism” in South Africa next week.

Earlier this week, Trump was uncommitted when asked if he would attend the G20 summit in South Africa in November. (The US expects G20 leadership in December.)

Few other officials can meet South Africans.

The Democrats have Placement Retaining confirmation of new State Department candidates in retaliation for Trump's efforts through Elon Musk (formerly South African) of the government's Department of Efficiency (DOGE). Nothing, undoubtedly corrupt spending is subject to public scrutiny.

(For example, one USAID program in South Africa provided $38 million to encourage men to undergo voluntary circumcision as a way to reduce the transmission of HIV. How many men actually volunteered? is unknown.)

In the past, South African delegations met with friendly members of the parliament. But they will mostly find friends this time. Republicans have other bones to choose along with South Africa: Send. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) recently denounced South Africa for succumbing to China by forcing diplomats from Taiwan to move embassies from Pretoria .

South Africa has an ambassador at Ebrahim Lasor of Washington, DC, who has been criticized for his explicit support for Hamas terrorists. In the current crisis, his response was to accuse President Trump of being under the influence of apartheid enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) continues its actions guaranteed to stimulate the United States, celebrating the 46th anniversary of Iran's “Victory of the Islamic Revolution” at the Iranian Embassy in Pretoria I attended the meeting. .

South African leaders seem to believe that rather than turning into failed policies at home, the focus should be persuaded behind closed doors in Washington.

This time it may be impossible to persuade.
