California deputy shot, killed while serving eviction notice

A tragic incident in Porterville, California, resulted in the death of Detective Randy Hopper, aged 35, during an eviction notice. This six-year veteran of the force was ambushed by a suspect identified as David Morales, who is 59 years old. Morales opened fire, prompting a significant police response. A deadly altercation in Columbia

In another distressing event, a gunfight occurred in Columbia, South Carolina, between two police officers and a man with a lengthy arrest history. One officer was killed and another injured early Saturday morning while responding to a domestic dispute call shortly after 9:30 a.m.

The officers were directed to a residence where a woman reported that a man, whom she had a restraining order against, was inside and damaging her property. However, by the time the officers arrived, the suspect had already left. They eventually located him about an hour later, which led to a gunfight.

Officer Christopher DeLong, 29, lost his life during this confrontation. Police Chief W.H. “Skip” Holbrook expressed deep sorrow, stating at a news conference later that day, “Our hearts are broken this evening…” He informed the public about the tragic loss, mentioning that Officer DeLong had only served for two years and left behind a wife and two young children.

The second officer, David Dymock, sustained injuries but is currently reported to be in stable condition. Holbrook expressed hope for Dymock’s recovery, saying, “Our prayers are with him as he continues to recover from wounds sustained during the gunfight.”

The suspect’s background

The shooter, identified as Adam Tyler Dowdy, was also killed in the gunfight. He had an extensive record of arrests for various offenses, including disorderly conduct and public intoxication. According to Holbrook, Dowdy might have been out on bond for a battery charge in Georgia at the time. The police chief noted, “We’re still trying to verify that preliminary information,” indicating an ongoing investigation into the suspect’s background.

Holbrook called for prayers for Officer DeLong’s family as they face this incredibly challenging time. Condolences have poured in from various law enforcement agencies across the region, and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster also expressed his sorrow over the loss.
