South Carolina Republican to back Trump amid news of Haley dropping out

Rep. Ralph Norman (RS.C.), the only member of Congress to support Nikki Haley as a presidential candidate, said Wednesday that news broke that Haley was planning to cancel her campaign. In response, he said he supports former President Trump.

“100 percent,” Norman told reporters when asked if Haley’s expected withdrawal from the race meant she was endorsing the Trump campaign.

Haley officially suspended her campaign Wednesday morning, shortly after Norman’s comments to reporters on her way to a Republican convention.

When asked if that meant he supported Trump, Norman said: I already did it. “

“Look, it’s time to come together. I support President Trump 100 percent. We have a country to save,” she said, apparently worried about the backlash from President Trump for supporting Haley. He answered the question.

“It’s not about words. It’s not about rhetoric. It’s about saving America,” he added.

Norman said he planned to call former President Trump immediately after the meeting. He also said he had not yet spoken to Haley as of Wednesday morning, but “she will call later.”

“This is not about politics. It’s not about Democrats, Republicans. It’s about getting this country back on the right track,” he said.

Norman said he expects Haley to support Trump.

“We’ll see. I hope so, I hope she does,” he said of his support for Trump. “I hope she has his back 100 percent. I mean, what are the other options? Do you guys really want to go through what we’ve been through for another four years? Really? Do you want…crime, borders, energy prices? Do you really want it to go on for another four years?”

Haley announced Wednesday morning in a speech in Charleston, South Carolina, that she was ending her campaign. She called on former President Trump to get the votes of his supporters ahead of the general election.

“It’s up to Donald Trump to win the votes of people who didn’t support him, both inside and outside his party, and I hope he does,” Haley told supporters in Charleston. I hope so.” “The best thing about politics is bringing people to your cause, not pushing them away. And our conservative cause needs more people. Now he It’s time to choose.

Norman praised Haley’s performance throughout the Republican primary. Asked what went wrong with the campaign, Norman pushed back on the premise of his question, saying the Republican primary showed the democratic process was underway.

“This is how democracy works. She went ahead with her plan. She beat, oh my, 13 other people? She did a good job,” Norman said. “But the people elected Donald Trump.”

“It’s good that things turned out the way they did. What Nikki Haley did was truly historic,” he said.
