Tragic Incident at South Carolina Restaurant
A man in South Carolina is mourning the loss of his wife, Dana Winger, who tragically lost her life after being struck by a flying restaurant umbrella. It’s been said she was “a truly wonderful woman and loved by many,” reflecting the deep affection felt by those who knew her.
On Saturday night, the 56-year-old Dana was dining on the patio of Driftwood Grill Home of the Lazy Gator, situated at Lake Marion in Somerton, alongside her husband and family when the incident occurred. Reports indicate that a “sudden, strong gust of wind” lifted the umbrella and sent it toward her, according to Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine the exact circumstances surrounding her death.
In a heartfelt tribute, Dana’s husband, Frank, expressed his love and sorrow on social media, stating, “Dana, I love you forever. I’m so sorry.” He also vowed to care for his father and family in the wake of this devastating event, emphasizing, “Just because you guys aren’t here with us anymore doesn’t mean you can’t live with us.” His words highlighted how much of an influence Dana and those lost had on the lives they touched.
Tributes from friends portray Dana as almost a second mother, with Heather Iosa recalling her warmth and kindness. Iosa shared fond memories and expressed how much she would be missed, calling her “the biggest heart ever.”
Emergency services were dispatched to the restaurant following a call around 7:40 PM, but unfortunately, Dana was unresponsive when they arrived. Despite their efforts, she could not be revived and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The restaurant has since expressed its sympathy for Winger’s family, stating that this tragedy has profoundly affected many in the community, including guests, staff, and first responders.
