South Carolina’s Shane Beamer rips ‘lazy narrative’ concerning Spencer Rattler amid fall in draft: ‘Bullcrap’

Six quarterbacks were selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But former South Carolina Gamecocks signal caller Spencer Rattler had to wait until the fifth round to find out his NFL fate.

The New Orleans Saints acquired Rattler with the 150th overall pick on Saturday. However, former Rattler coach Shane Beamer disputed how far the quarterback fell in the draft. He suggested that unfavorable scouting reports and pre-draft discourse contributed to 149 players being drafted ahead of Rattler.

“What a tired, lazy story. And bullshit,” Beamer wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Rattler’s appearance on the reality show may have had a negative impact on his draft stock. In 2019, Rattler appeared in the Netflix documentary series “QB1: Beyond the Lights” as a high school football player.

“To be honest, this is a little weird,” Rapoport said. “Rattler was on a reality show called ‘QB1: Beyond the Lights’ when he was in high school. It didn’t make him look good and how many teams mentioned to me about his image on that show.” It’s incredible how they can’t figure it out.”I think this will be a public announcement for all 17-year-olds, but it will be interesting as teams consider whether to draft him.”
