President Donald Trump declared on Wednesday that South Korea has been authorized to construct nuclear submarines within the United States.
This announcement was made during a fruitful trip to Asia, as he shared on Truth Social.
“South Korea has agreed to pay the United States $350 billion in tariff reductions imposed by us. Moreover, they will purchase large amounts of our oil and gas, while investments from wealthy Korean companies in the U.S. will surpass $600 billion,” the president wrote.
Noteworthy — President Trump reiterated the following in South Korea.
“Our military alliance has never been stronger, and because of this, I have authorized them to construct nuclear submarines instead of their existing, less efficient diesel-powered ones. It was a magnificent journey with the exceptional South Korean President!” he added.
In another post, Trump remarked, “South Korea intends to build a nuclear submarine at the Philadelphia Shipyard. Right here in America, our shipbuilding sector is on the verge of a significant comeback. Stay tuned!!! President DJT.”
The U.S. shipbuilding industry has seen a decline for years, falling behind competitors like China. In March, President Trump announced the establishment of the Department of Shipbuilding, stating, “We used to build a lot of ships, and soon we’re going to build very fast ships,” highlighting the sector’s revival.
Breitbart News reported on October 16th:
China’s Ministry of Commerce recently declared sanctions against five subsidiaries of the South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean.
These sanctions are viewed as a response to a U.S. investigation into China’s predominance in the global shipbuilding market, possibly validating U.S. claims.
As reported by Breitbart News, the president also mentioned on Wednesday that he has largely finalized a bilateral trade agreement with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
His remarks came during a dinner with Lee and other leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Gyeongju.
“We have an agreement that’s nearly complete,” President Trump stated. “We also touched on various issues concerning national security and similar topics. I believe we reached conclusions on several very significant matters.”
Additionally, during his visit, Lee honored Trump with the Grand Mugunghwa Medal, the highest honor in South Korea, recognizing his efforts as a peacemaker, making him the first U.S. president to receive such an accolade.
A replica of the golden Tenmazuka crown was also given as a gift.
Kim Tae-jin, South Korea’s Vice-Minister of Diplomatic Protocol, remarked, “This symbolizes the spirit of Silla, which first brought peace to the Korean Peninsula and marks the beginning of a golden era for the Korea-U.S. alliance, presented during this joyous state visit to Gyeongju.”
