‘South Pacific’ Star Mitzi Gaynor Dies at 93

(UPI) — Mitzi Gaynor, the actress known for her roles in “South Pacific'' and films alongside Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra, has died. She was 93 years old.

Her management shared the news in a statement posted on social media Thursday morning.

They said Gaynor died of “natural causes.”

“She has been entertaining audiences in film, television and theater for 80 years,” the post reads. “She thoroughly enjoyed every moment of her professional career and enjoyed the incredible privilege of being an entertainer.”

In South Pacific, Gaynor played U.S. Navy nurse Nellie Forbush. She became famous for her performance of the song “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair.”

Her other film credits include Anything Goes (1956) with Bing Crosby, Les Girls (1957), and The Joker is Wild (1957) with Frank Sinatra. There was.

She co-starred with Zsa Zsa Gabor and Marilyn Monroe in We're Not Married! (1952), and reunited with Monroe in There's No Business Like Show Business (1954).

Gaynor also headlined several television specials on CBS.

“Off the stage, she was a vibrant, extraordinary woman, a caring and loyal friend, warm, kind, very funny, and an absolutely wonderful human being. And she could cook. ” Gaynor management revealed.

“We celebrate her legacy and express our gratitude to her friends, fans, and the countless audiences she entertained throughout her long life,” the statement continued. “Your love, support and appreciation meant so much to her and was a gift that sustained her throughout her life. She often described her audience as 'the sunshine of my life.' You really were. ”
