The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reported new strikes on suspected drug trafficking boats, marking the fourth such attack in just a week.
This action took place on Saturday, as directed by SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan.
SOUTHCOM stated, “Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal attack on a vessel associated with a designated terrorist group. Intelligence indicated that the vessel was navigating known drug trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific Ocean and was involved in drug trafficking activities.”
The command also confirmed that three male suspects connected to drug trafficking were killed in this airstrike, with no reported injuries among U.S. forces.
In addition to the Saturday strike, attacks occurred on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday this past week, making it quite a busy period for the operation. Since September, around 60 vessels have been targeted as part of Operation Southern Spear, a military initiative from the previous administration aimed at combatting the smuggling of drugs into the United States. Reports indicate that this campaign has led to 205 fatalities.
