AutoZone rises 3% after fiscal second-quarter profit beats

AutoZone stock soared 3% early Tuesday morning after the auto parts retailer beat analyst estimates for both second-quarter profit and sales.

AutoZone reported earnings of $28.89 per share and revenue of $3.85 billion. Analysts polled by LSEG expected earnings of $26.28 and revenue of $3.84 billion.

Macy’s stock price falls due to lack of earnings

Shares of Macy’s, a major department store, fell 3.6% after the company posted poor profits in the fourth quarter.

According to LSEG, Macy’s reported sales of $8.12 billion, below analysts’ expectations of $8.15 billion. Meanwhile, the company’s adjusted earnings per share came in at $2.45, beating the consensus estimate of $1.96.

Forward guidance was also weaker than expected. Management expects full-year net sales to be in the range of $22.2 billion to $22.9 billion, compared to expectations of $22.95 billion.

Lowe’s stock price rises more than profits

Lowe’s shares traded more than 1% after the home improvement giant reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results despite fewer residential projects being taken on by customers. The company also said it expects sales to fall between $84 billion and $85 billion this year, down from $86.38 billion in fiscal 2023.

Europe’s Stoxx 600 index opened 0.04% higher on Tuesday with sectors trading mixed.
