David Spade Shares Frightening Encounter on Podcast
During a recent episode of his podcast, David Spade opened up about a tense moment he experienced while driving home. He described how he ignored several signs of trouble, feeling a surge of fear as he feared being chased and trapped.
Spade recalled returning home from a gig at an improv comedy club, expressing one of his main concerns living in Los Angeles: “being plagued by crime.” He painted a vivid picture of the narrow street where he lives, mentioning that two vehicles were behind him without him realizing it. When he reached his driveway, he hesitated, worried about what might happen next.
“I’m up this awkward little street; it’s pretty slim,” he said. “So, there were two cars behind me. I didn’t even notice. I pulled over, didn’t want to get too close to my driveway, feeling like they might pass by.” He detailed how he grabbed pepper spray, just in case.
He then shared a somewhat humorous exchange with those behind him, saying they were asking for his autograph, which added to his anxiety about the situation. Spade and his podcast co-host, Dana Carvey, discussed how some who pursue autographs can come off more aggressive than supportive fans. “It’s kind of nerve-wracking because they feel like a mob at times,” he noted.
Carvey chimed in, suggesting that such encounters make it feel more like business than a fan-artist relationship, which is indeed quite different from casual fan interactions. Spade agreed but also admitted to loving talking to loyal fans, expressing that the aggressive ones really bother him.
Interestingly, Spade’s remarks about his experience echo larger safety concerns in Hollywood, a place that has recently seen several high-profile crimes, including incidents involving other celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman.
In a bid to combat such issues, Spade previously offered a $5,000 reward in an attempt to help catch a suspected arsonist responsible for wildfires in the Los Angeles area. It seems clear that the safety of celebrities and everyday citizens alike is a hot topic these days.
